CHAMPAIGN — The contract of defensive line coach Tom Sims is not being renewed, Illinois coach Ron Zook said.

"It's hard," Zook said. "Tom's a good guy and he's done a good job. It's just a lot of things that go into decisions like that. I want to do everything I can do to help Tom."

Sims joined the Illinois staff when Zook was hired after the 2004 season. The former NFL defensive lineman has also worked at Minnesota, Eastern Michigan and Western Kentucky.
