Illinois linebacker Martez Wilson suffered two stab wounds early Friday morning while going to the aid of former teammate D'Angelo McCray, The News-Gazette has learned.
Wilson, who had surgery Friday morning at Carle Foundation Hospital, is expected to make a full recovery. He will likely remain in the hospital until mid-week.
Illinois coach Ron Zook is expected to address Wilson's injuries later today. The team's annual banquet is scheduled for tonight in the Colonnades Club of Memorial Stadium.
McCray just completed his first season at Eastern Illinois after transferring from Illinois. Like Wilson, McCray was a highly touted high school senior. But he struggled with injuries his freshman year and decided to move to Eastern Illinois. In 2008, He had 11 tackles in 12 games for the Panthers.
