Bob Asmussen's thoughts:

One thing a school is never going to do with a depth chart is help the opponent. And it's hard to blame them. There are doubtless listings on every depth chart across the country that aren't exactly what the coaches are seeing in the film room. There is a definite method to the madness.

Kicker is obviously a gameday decison for Illinois. I still think it will be Derek Dimke on the first placement, but I've been known to be wrong before. A lot.

Nice to see both Derek Walker and Doug Pilcher listed as starting defensive ends. They basically are both starters, though they won't likely see the field at the same time.

The three starting receivers will get lots of help from the guys listed behind them. Mike Locksley's offense requires more than three guys running up and down the field. Of course, Arrelious Benn isn't leaving the field much.

After Daniel Dufrene, I think you'll see all four running backs have an opportunity to play against Missouri.

Though he isn't listed as a starter, I expect offensive lineman Randall Hunt to get plenty of playing time. He is the unit's sixth man and could get work at multiple positions.

The thought going into Camp Rantoul was that the five safeties are pretty even. Nothing here changes that.

I can't wait to see the lineup Saturday night.

IN ANOTHER FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT:

The weekly Illinois football show, which for decades had appeared locally on WCIA, will move this year to WICD. The show is also moving to a new time slot, airing at  10:35 p.m. Mondays.

Comments

I don't know if this is an appropriate place to ask or not and I know you said it is a tentative depth chart but where is Marques Wilkins? Any idea? I am out of the loop but has something happened with him since Rantucky?

Thanks in advance for any info.
