Shortly after he was selected in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Illinois signee Seth Schwindenhammer passed on the opportunity to play in the orange and blue and instead signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox.
The Bartonville Limestone graduate is off to a slow start with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, a rookie league affiliate, but having celebrated his 19th birthday on July 1, the outfielder will have plenty of time to showcase his talents.
Through 12 games, the 6-foot-2, left-handed swinging Schwindenhammer is hitting .150 (6 for 30) and has driven in three runs and scored three times. Of his six hits, two have gone for extra bases (double, triple).
