I like how BW gets after these guys without getting personal. BP has played great but he can't get too full of himself and start believing the hype. BW will make sure he stays humble.

I agree. When Bruce knows he has a talent on his hands he gets into their head and never lets them settle. You can tell already that he is clicking with Brandon and DJ.

And I really hate to be a negative nellie, but it makes you wonder in retrospect why he babied Randle and Pruitt like he did. I guess we'll never know.

Randle and Pruitt were different animals. Randle was allegedly a hard-working kid who never really figured it out. Pruitt was on the verge of getting thrown off the team in the middle of his senior year because he never really got along with anyone and was a "me-first" guy. I'm sure Bruce and Co. learned a lot about how to handle players like those guys.

This is where the parental influence comes in, esp with BP. Kudos to Mom.

Coach always thought Randle got too down on himself, so was trying to build him up. I am no insider, but Pruitt never seemed that coachable, like he listened to other people more than coach. Not giving Weber any kind of a pass, because that is partly on him, but well, some personalities don't click.

Randle is easy to figure out. He would always get down on himself and hang his head. Berating an individual like that will only make it worse. Part of coaching has to be figuring out the best ways to help motivate your players and some of them won't handle criticism well. I don't see that characteristic in Demetri or Deron...those were the two he went after the most. Looks like that may be the best way with Paul also. DJ not so sure yet.

I loved this part:

Nonetheless, Weber was inspired after the game to say, “Can you imagine if Brandon Paul would ever go get intense?” Combining that comment with a few of the things Weber said during the game, I wondered if Paul was his new Demetri McCamey-esque project -- the No. 1 whipping boy that Weber believes he needs to tame and fix with his brand of corrective coaching. And Bruce replied (with a smile):

“I hope he’s not that bad. One of the best things about him, though, is he doesn’t change his temperament. We’ve yelled at him. We’ve got after him. We’ve teased him. And he just comes back and plays. And that’s a good thing. I think that’s why he’s playing so well.”

Listening to Paul's mom last night, it seems she trusts Weber to do what's right and she's turned the reins over to him.
