Pre-determined zone read is killing us. NW is keying on the backs every time.
Way to go Shultz.

Benn sucks. There are WRs on every other team that make things happen. I'm sick of the excuses.

Granted, I'm not a football coach, but when the run is working so well I would think that play action would be good to use. Just a thought.

Charest playing like a freshman today
Teams had a chance to game plan him. Is this surprising?
If anyone just watched NU score before half, it's clear to see who the better team is. Illinois is not good, which we knew, but you hoped we could play better.

Second half prediction:
NW comes out smoking and demolishes IL.
No Juice, no victory.

Can't blame defense-----3 pointa at half against NW is embarrassing as is losing 5 of the last 6, for god's sakes.

Everything that's maddening about this team was encapsulated in the final minute of the first half. Just astonishing. So much for Charest being the answer. And yeah, I agree about Benn. I've never seen so little produced by an athlete who is supposedly so gifted. At some point the excuses have to stop.
I'm not convinced NU is the better team. Better coached, definitely. But this game is entirely winnable. Given the stakes and the opportunities Illinois has had, losing this would be the worst defeat of the year.

Just another typical game where the Illinois football coaches get outcoached. Has it been 5 quarters now since we've scored a touchdown?

Did everyone see the NW offense sprinting toward the other end of the field at the end of the third quarter? Illinois was walking back to the sideline.....kind of sums up this game and the motivation our players play with.

Can someone tell me how Ron Guenther claims to care about the Illinois football program, but keep a clown like Zook on the sidelines? Zook is basically stealing unearned money.

I think I said it pretty well earlier this week when I said Pat Fitzgerald plays chess while Zook plays checkers when it comes to coaching.
NW may not have the greatest talent, but Fitzgerald gets the absolute most out of his team. I'd give a lot to have him coach Illinois.

Also, Arrelious Benn is not NFL material. He can't catch, he isn't fast, and he gets hurt everytime someone sneezes on him.

Nov 14 2009, 01:50 PM
the big difference....NU gets more coachable players....whether the coaches are better or not....... we've got too many guys that dont know how to play the game.... DB's not knowing where the ball is, not knowing who to cover, throwing a block below the waist after signalling for a fair catch...catching a punt and taking it away from a punt receiver.....the list goes on and on..... they arent getting coached or else they are just not listening...or both..

I had to watch on ESPN 360, so the resolution was not good, but was Fayson bobbling the ball when he went down? If not, then that is by far, without question, the worst call I've ever seen, in any sport, on any level, ever.
