It would be wonderful if everyone refused to fight in wars, and the corrupt a-holes who start them wouldn't have armies to do any damage with. But as long as there are people in the world willing to attack others, it would be wise of everyone to thank the soldiers who prevent those people from attacking us, and to honor their valor, even if you harbor some crackpot idea that honoring bravery is just a farce to allow people to be manipulated by warmongering a-holes.

I guess somebody has to do it. I have to remember that i've talked to a lot of high school students who can't wait to join the army and blow up somebody. I guess the military may keep them from prison or killing somebody in my family.

How does that require courage? We don't take people outside and shoot them for cowardice in this country. At most, people will express their displeasure, though you'll find at least as many blame-America-first liberals who will express their profound belief in your righteousness or heroism.

Huh? That's really the way you feel about the military? What about national defense in general...for any country?

I could use a little more detail here.
