I don't agree with many or even everything these two have done, however, I do think they deserve some praise.

JOE LIEBERMAN

QUOTE
"We're trying to do too much at once," Lieberman said. “To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now."

QUOTE
Lieberman said that he’d vote against a public option plan “even with an opt-out because it still creates a whole new government entitlement program for which taxpayers will be on the line."

AMEN!

I actually have a lot of respect for Lieberman given that he basically bucked the system and ran (and won) as an independent. He isn't beholden to either party. A large part of me thinks that if there were more people like Lieberman (and yes, even McCain) in positions of power, our country might actually move in the right direction.

BART STUPAK

QUOTE
The Energy and Commerce subcommittee chairman said he has been working with Democratic leaders on a compromise, but they haven't been able to strike a deal. Stupak pointed out that he and Democratic leaders have a fundamental disagreement on whether health plans that receive subsidies from the government should be allowed to provide coverage options on abortions.

Stupak wants a vote on the House floor to strike the language, and predicts he would have the votes to pass such an amendment.

"This has been federal law since 1976," he said, noting that President Barack Obama has vowed not to allow healthcare reform to pay for abortions.

However, the Michigan Democrat said he will not be backing down: "I'm comfortable with where I'm at. This is who I am. It's reflective of my district. If it costs me my seat, so be it."

Good for sticking to his principles. I applaud his stance.

I've always been a huge fan of Lieberman, as we share similar views, and I really think he does things in the best interest of the country as opposed to what is in the best interest of any political party.

100% agree on the post!

How deliciously self-serving. I bet you aren't as big of a fan of John McCain or Olympia Snowe.

Or god help us Arlen Specter.

Yawn.

I do have respect for John McCain. None for Arlen Spector. Please explain how he deserves some since he switched parties because it was in his own self-interest. As for Olympia Snowe, whatever. She screwed the Dems by voting yes on health care. The smart ones know this; the mouth-breathers don't. She's spineless.

I'm sure Bart Stupak has been your boy for quite some time now.

One of my favorites is the Dem who believed this...

"This administration pledged itself last summer to an across-the-board, top-to-bottom cut in personal and corporate income taxes ... Next year's tax bill should reduce personal as well as corporate income taxes, for those in the lower brackets, who are certain to spend their additional take-home pay, and for those in the middle and upper brackets, who can thereby be encouraged to undertake additional efforts and enabled to invest more capital ... I am confident that the enactment of the right bill next year will in due course increase our gross national product by several times the amount of taxes actually cut."

I like Lieberman for basically telling his constituency to pound sand despite their overwhelming support for the public option.

I respect McCain sometimes, but when he pulls the sort of #$%&@! he pulled with net neutrality this year my respect wanes. Or when he jokes about bombing Iran.
