Hi, everybody. We'll start our weekly chat now.

Are there any reports on the early practice rounds of golf recruit Thomas Pieters? How are the other youngsters coming along? Need to fill those slots for two departing seniors.

Jeff Huth (moderator) — 11:24 AM on Fri, 09/03/2010

Hoping to talk to coach Mike Small next week before the team plays its first tournament Sept. 11-12 at Wolf Run in Indiana. Pieters is a highly regarded freshman from Belgium and figures to contend for vacancies created by graduation of Zach Barlow and Matt Hoffman. Sophomore Ross Frankenberg got his collegiate feet wet last season, competing in six tournaments overall. Also keep an eye on a couple of players who redshirted as freshmen last season: Jonathan Hauter and Mason Jacobs. Both are former IHSA state champions. These are players Small will be counting on to step up this season, but in particular after current seniors Scott Langley and Chris DeForest conclude their high-impact careers.

Jeff
I was at last weekends voleleyball matches and wasn't impressed with the crowds. Why arent they bigger?
Thanks
Steve

Actually, the first-night crowd was the second biggest "Stuff Huff" crowd since that promotion was started five years ago. The attendance was announced at 2,688. The crowd for Illinois' late-morning match on Saturday figured to be smaller -- and it was, 537 -- because of the odd start time. If there was a disappointing turnout, it was on Saturday night for the match that decided the State Farm Illini Classic title. Just 1,418 showed up. Considering Illinois' ranking -- then No. 6 -- as well as the high expectations for this team, you would have expected a bigger crowd than that.

Is Jessica Jendryk,s injury all healed? Do you know what Keelin Bourne is up to now?

Jeff Huth (moderator) — 11:56 AM on Fri, 09/03/2010

Jendryk suffered a torn ACL in June 2009, a few months before she arrived for her freshman year, and missed all of last season. Kevin Hambly says she's doing fine and has recovered from the knee injury. Keelin Bourne left the program for personal reasons after last season. She finished out the school year, and Hambly said he thinks she is still attending the UI this semester.

Hey Jeff. I know that the addition going on at Illini Field is going to add 30% more floor space to locker room. But what are the changes on the inside for the boys?

Jeff Huth (moderator) — 01:03 PM on Fri, 09/03/2010

It's my understanding that the 30 percent increase relates to the size of the entire current building. The locker area itself will double in size. There will be wooden locker around the perimeter and space for flat-screen monitors for video review. A renovated meeting area also will have work stations for video work as well as serve as a place for the players to relax before and after practices or games.

Thanks for your questions. Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe Labor Day weekend. We'll be back next Friday at 11 a.m. to take your questions.
