Greetings from Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Sorry about the late start. Had a technical glitch. Iowa-Penn State is going on now, after Michigan State beat Michigan. Illinois-Ohio State tips off at 5 p.m. CT.
Geo, Burlington, IL: Do you see anyone tranfering out at the end of the year? Also, are we recruiting anyone else for next year? Based on what I see on the roster we are going to be extremely small if not. Who do you think will be the starting 5 next year? Thanks
George,
I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of the bench players move on, but then again, I said the same thing last season, and everyone stayed. It seems clear that a few players on the bench aren't going to see much playing time going forward, but that isn't the only factor when a player is deciding whether to transfer....
... I'd say the starting five next year will be McCully at the point, Amber Moore at the 2, Adrienne GodBold or Magrum at the 3, Penn at the 4 and Brianna Jones at the 5 ...
... Jolette has said that they're done with the current recruiting class, which consists of guards Centrese McGee and Alexis Burke. Don't think you'll see them recruit a senior post player. Jolette has said that getting a 'big' is a priority for the Class of 2011.
From Jim, Urbana, IL: Connecticut is good. I have watched them several times of TV. Stanford is also very good. If it get that far, how will any Big-10 team do against either one? Is there enough talent out there to stop either team? I guess they will be the last teams playing. Comments?
Ohio State is the only Big Ten team that can come within 25 points of UConn or within 15 points of Stanford. Those two teams are head-and-shoulders better than everyone else, as they have demonstrated all season. No one will beat UConn; Stanford has the best chance but will need some help from the Huskies.
From Efrem, Gilberts, Il: Hey Tony, I think it is crazy to suggest that Law's staus as a coach be reivewed after her second year. However, I am reading these rants on message boards. Please confirm to me that this is not true. I see Law as one of Guenther's best hires in the last five years. What are your thoughts?
Efrem,
Don't worry. Jolette isn't going anywhere. She's finishing the third year of a five-year contract, so she'll be back in 2010-11. Next year, however, seems like a very important season for her future here. Obviously, Ron Guenther isn't going to extend her contract after this season, being as dismal as it's been. So next year there will be pressure on her to show that the program is moving in the right direction. In her three seasons, Illinois has finished ninth, ninth and ninth. If Illinois doesn't move up next season, Guenther won't be able to extend her contract, and then she'd be working on the final year of her deal in 2011-12, and that's never a good thing for a coach. It's impossible to recruit when you're working on the final year of your contract. So, in my opinion, improvement is critical next season. Otherwise, the situation appears untenable moving forward.

Tony, I keep seeing one of next year's recruits, Alexis Burke, putting up big numbers in individual games--25 points, 26, 29. What can you tell us about her-- what kind of player she is and how ready she might be to help out? We'll need all the offense we can get.
Matt,
I've been told that she's a dynamic scorer, one that could have an impact -- to some degree -- next season. I don't know if you'll see her in the starting lineup, but I think she might be able to provide some much-needed offense off the bench.
I'm going to try to reach Alexis and her coach this week, so keep an eye out here. Hopefully I can give you some insight from them as Illinois moves along in the postseason.
Looks like we're done. Sorry again about the late start. Don't forget: Illinois-Ohio State at 5 p.m. CT, on Big Ten Network, with the Live Report right here.

Because of that technical glitch, I'm going to go ahead and post the questions we've received.
