Positive Yhinking from Champaign, Il. — 11:04 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Hello Mr. Legend: Andy Katz (senior sports reporter for ESPN)wrote an article on Coach Webber Friday.Webber talks about his father/mother and their work ethics. Did you ever meet Dawn his mother.Iknow she passed away in 2005.Sounds like his parents gave him his inspirations to lead a humble, christian life! This is a truly a good person.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:05 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Positive, yes Weber is a humble, hard-working person, a good guy. His parents raised him right but, no, I never met them. Loren

THE MAN from CHAMPAIGN, IL. — 11:06 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Hello Mr. TATE: Why are we giving Loser Law a free pass. She has driven off players. There are rumors on campus that she gives her black players special treatment. We do not need people who choose color over ability.I hope this is not true. I do not expect this comment to be on your show. This is what is being heard on the streets.Loren for President! Ha hA

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:07 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

The Man, the women's basketball program appeared to be on the rise when Law brought in all those promising freshmen. We are just now witnessing an unfortunate turnaround. As for president, I'd like to run but I don't have time. Loren

Reggie from Chicago, IL — 11:07 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Does Loren smell like moth balls?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:07 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Reggie, it's worse than that. That's why I walk around with a clothes pin on my nose. Loren

A2LA POSITIVE Z from Champaign, il. — 11:08 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Good Morning Mid-West Sport Legends: My question is why is the Hook Shot not being used nowadays? I practiced it back in the 70's at Hessel Park. The same time Loren was playing Tennis. You guys are the history of Champaign sports Media. Take a bow ZEN MASTERS OF SPORTS!

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:08 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

A2LA -- Mike Tisdale uses the hook, but you don't see it a great deal. Most players prefer the jumper. It is more accurate after you get outside of 8 feet. Loren

Alloy Ed from planet Champaign , Il. — 11:09 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Hello Universal Gods of Sports:Why do the Women shoot free throws at a better percentage than the men? Double cheese burger from burger is the best!

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:10 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

AlloyEd, for one thing, the women's ball is smaller. And for another, many male players are recruited for their size, leaping ability and physicality, with the hope you can teach them to shoot. Usually the bigger players are the ones being fouled. As for who has the best percentage, I haven't looked it up. Loren

Brad from Urbana, IL — 11:10 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

guys,

is the tennis program on its way to being one of the nations elite again?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:11 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

brad, it appears that the tennis program is a solid Top 20 and maybe runner-up in the Big Ten, but I don't see signs that they're heading back where they were under Tiley. Loren

David Collier from rock island, illinois — 11:11 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

The Illini have hit rock bottom.
When is Coach Law going to be shown the door? One of Ron Gunthers worst hires.
How long does she get a free pass? the next coach needs to have head coaching experiance and success in the NCAA playoffs.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:12 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

David, Coach Law will be given more time to see if the young players can get it turned around in the next couple of years. What we're seeing now is disappointing. Loren

Angela from Geneva, Ill — 11:12 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Loren--It seems that Coach Law might be a great recruiter but not so great at the actual game coaching. Any comment? She made big promises but doesn't seem to be able to deliver the game-day product. She has the players, but can't put the game together effectively to bring wins.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:12 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

angela, see previous. Loren

Stan from Milwaukee , WIsconsin — 11:12 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Hey guys,

So I know people always give out questions about where you would rank the best atmospheres in Big Ten basketball. I wasn't at the game Saturday, but it seemed at least equal, if not better to other conference arenas. What are you thoughts?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:14 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

stan, when the fans pack the Assembly Hall and really get fired up, it is as good as anyplace in terms of atmosphere. But it would be better if it was differently configured, and more students were on the sideline. Loren

Steve Due from Long Beach, Callifornia — 11:14 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

do the future recruits appear to put the Illini back in the sweet 16/final 8 picture in hoops?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:16 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Steve, I had a man-crush on your dad. What a great guy. No, it's much too early to be thinking about Elite 8. The Illini lack strength in the post area, and that won't change next year, and it isn't clear that Illinois will be dominant in rebounding any time soon. We'll see. Things change. Maybe Leonard will be the answer. But he is slender too. Loren

Brian from Urbana, IL — 11:16 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

is the basketball team changing there plans around today with the weather forecast?

Are the flying or busing up to Madison?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:16 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Brian, the flight has been moved up 3 hours to 2:30 this afternoon. The team will practice in Madison. Loren

Ricky from Bloomington, IL — 11:16 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

What was the problem with Tisdale on Saturday? He seemed very lethargic after an early put back dunk? Was he sick, or just unable to take the physicality MSU put on him?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:18 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

RIcky, Tisdale played the best he could, got some rebounds, scored three baskets and contributed, but both he and Davis get muscled our by physical players like Green, Morgan and Roe. In the previous MSU game, he had one field goal attempt and no baskets. They really control him because, well... they are better and stronger and they take advantage of the way the game is called. Loren

Jared from Champaign, IL — 11:18 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

ESPN Gameday was awesome. Kudos to the Orange Krush for braving the elements! With the recruits that were in attendance, do you feel we could expect a committment from any of them this week perhaps?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:19 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Jared, I don't know about commitments, but the excitement of that game had to impress Shaw and the others in attendance. It was extremely impressive, even to an old geezer like me. Loren

Jay from Urbana, IL — 11:19 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Is it true that you asked Erin Andrews out after the game Loren?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:21 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Jay, this is not usually the case, but that game was so special, and my deadline situation so demanding -- my entire story had to be in within 15 minutes of Davis' dunk -- that I honestly didn't notice Erin, although I did say hello to her once in passing. That game literally swept me away. Loren

Jeff from Boonville, MO — 11:21 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Can you list the recruits that were at the Michigan St game and do you think we will offer Rico Richardson? If we sign Rico would it mess us up with Randle? Thanks

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:22 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Jeff, I'm sorry, I would normally have the answer. Somebody rattled off the name of recruits to me, but I didn't write them down nor pay much attention. I had other business. As for Rico Richardson, I have no idea. Loren

Mike from newberry, Floeida — 11:22 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

I I post on another blog and I'm sick of all the criticism of Mike Tisdale and Bill Cole. Tisdale when he first came to Illinois was an outside shooter his first two years. He has totally revamped his game to being a postup player. He gets banged around about every game. but, his stats are near the top of the conference in several bigman catagories. Bill Cole may not score a lot, but that isn't what Weber wants from him. His job is to take the other teams best forward and play good defense on him. Which usully takes him away from the basket and lessens his defensive rebounds. Why do you think posters are down on these two players so much?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:25 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Mike, first let's accept the fact that a lot of people are negative about everything. I'm negative at times too, but not about everything. Tisdale and Cole are limited -- one on defense, the other on offense -- and do the best they can. When they do that, what more can you ask?
Your first mistake is paying attention to "posters." I think many of them go on the Internet to frustrate everyone else. Loren

Laurie Jamieson from Bellevue, WA — 11:25 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Comment/Question regarding Mike Tisdale: I think he tries hard and we know has gained weight since coming to Illinois but he is mid-way through his Jr.year and still gets pushed into next week under the boards. Q.- Are we expecting/demanding things from him that he just can't give? Should we focus more on getting him a few more outside shots/jumpers?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:26 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Laurie, Lou Henson keeps telling me, look at what Tisdale CAN DO and not what he CAN'T DO. As for Tisdale getting more outside shots, he can't get them off if opponents cover him because he lacks ability to put the ball on the court and free himself. Loren

mike from dewey, ill — 11:27 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Saturday was a fantastic win for the ILLINI. However, I was wondering if it would be more effective to play Keller,Griffey or Cole against big powerful centers, because it seems that Tisdale is very ineffective against powerful centers on both offfense and defense?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:28 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

MIke, it appears to me that Weber is playing Tisdale in an appropriate way. He is a better scorer than the three players you mention and, if Griffey has good potential, he isn't ready to take on opposing center defensively. Loren

Harold from Urbana, IL — 11:28 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Is there any truth to the rumor that Jolette Law had an aletrcation with and yelled obscenities at Bruce Weber?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:29 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Harold, that sounds like a baseless rumor to me. I would be shocked if it was true. Loren

tom from bloomington, IL — 11:29 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

The MSU game was the best atomosphere in AH since 05. do you think our NCAA chances have improved to 50/50 or better now? but a lot of work lies ahead.

I don't understand the uproar over rushing the court. Those events are never planned and the response to hyped emotion. Vitale went over the top in his criticsm of the Krush for it in my opinion. He dwelled on it for a few minutes rather than just stating his peace about it.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:30 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Tom, as you say, Vitale went over the top on that. It was a natural reaction to rush the court. Yes, it was the best AH atmosphere in at least four years. I'd say Illini chances are better than 50-50 but they have a lot of work yet to do. It could go either way. Loren

mike from Newberry, florida — 11:31 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Why does Illinois do all the outside picking with Tisdal, instead of posting him up? Sometimes he looks like a chicken with his head cut off.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:32 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

MIke, when Tisdale picks for McCamey, it forces the opposing center to switch or at least hedge against a superior dribbler, and it allows the tall center to roll deep for a possible shot. It is working out pretty well in those situations against the clock, don't you think. Loren

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:32 AM on Mon, 02/08/2010

Sorry, I'm over already. Got to go catch Weber. Thanks, Loren
