Ok, here we go on another quickie. Again, Weber has presser at 11:30.

Republican Ed from Champaign, Illinois — 11:03 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Buenos Dias Senors: We have just beat 2 of the 3 bottom feeders in the Big Ten.Good job to the ball players! Iowa will be shooting a lot of threes, can we defend these? It is nice to see the bench players do well against the week teams. We still need: (DAVIS,TISDALE,PAUL,RICHARDSON,DEMIRTI)TO TAKE US TO THE PROMISE LAND.Good job guys!

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:05 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Repub ... who are you going to vote for, Ed? Or is your nickname giving you away?
Yes,Iowa will shoot 3's. They have been up and down. Illinois will certainly emphasize that. Jim and Loren

Jason from Pekin, IL — 11:05 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Looks like we got some pretty solid recruits the past few days. How does this class stack up considering the decline this program has been in the past couple of years?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:06 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Jason, this class in no way, insofar as we can tell, stacks up with other Zook classes, although Zook says it does. Jim and Loren

Ray from Champaign, IL — 11:06 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Has Juice been training to get ready for his shot at the NFL?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:07 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Ray, Juice would like a shot, but is getting little interest, and the agent he wanted has said no. Maybe someone will pick him up as a free agent. We'll see. Jim and Loren

Doug from Barrington, IL — 11:07 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Whats the likelihood of Zook landing Corey Cooper? I see we are in his top 6.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:08 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Doug, Cooper is still committed to Illinois and we don't know anything more than that. With all the visits he has made, it is anyone's guess. Jim and Loren

scott from minneapolis, mn — 11:08 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

I realize Zook has to have a story to tell and show confidence in a new experienced staff making a huge difference, but if you look at the staff he had at Florida, it sure doesn't seem like a high quality, experienced staff made all the difference there. Thoughts?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:09 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Scott, we aren't sufficiently up either Zook's staff at Florida, or this new staff to be able to comment. Jim and Loren

Jim from Bloomington, IL — 11:09 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Whatever happened to Neil Bresnahan?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:10 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Jim, Neil could buy and sell Tate and Turpin with the money he has made in Chicago. At last report, which was more than a year ago and before the financial crisis, Bresnahan was doing great. We haven't heard since. Jim and Loren

Steve from Champaign Co, IL — 11:11 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Illinois has a tradition of looking at the past to appreciate great people and accomplishments. We like legends. What are 2-3 ways boosters and others can really start a paradigm shift to get more people interested to expect and experience greatness NOW and in the FUTURE? Think ideas, visions, plans, trust, etc. We need this shift for FB and BB NOW. Thanks for the chats.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:12 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

steve, a shotgun chat doesn't provide the background research and considerations necessary to dig into this question. This is just too ponderous ... but your thoughts are good. Jim and Loren

Bob from Champaign, IL — 11:12 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Could you move your chat to 10 am as 1/2 hour is too short b4 you run to Weber's press conference at 11 30 am?

I suggest having an hour chat like the other dudes at the Gazette. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the 1/2 hour b4 you at Weber's press conference.

This is better time management and to manage stress better.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:13 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Bob, we are on the air from 9 to 11, so we can't do a chat at 10. We can't be two places at once. Jim and Loren

Terry Fortman from Davenport, Iowa — 11:13 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

What do you think has contributed to the prominence of money in college athletics besides the addition of women's sports over the years, plus the inflation in coaching salaries? Should colleges be able to levy a sircharge on on professional sports revenues or player bonuses when they are selected?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:16 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Terry, these are good questions but way above our pay scale. We'd need time and discussions for issues of this nature. We aren't used to answering queries with the word "paradigm" in them. We don't even know what it means. Jim and Loren

MKB ILLINI from Mahomet, IL — 11:16 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Hey guys...Do you have any idea where I can purchase a pair of the shorts the team wore on Saturday? Not that I am a huge fan of the pink, but any win against Indiana is worth remembering! It was nice to send them home with a buzzer beater to think about as we have done in the past!

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:17 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

MKB Illini, they plan to auction the uniforms while the players keep the shoes. For more info, call Kent Brown at 333 1391. Jim and Loren

Fred Deremiah from Charleston, IL — 11:17 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

First off, thanks to DMac for the clutch win on Saturday. People for sometime now have been spouting how Weber is responsible for our shortcomings this year. Why is it, when a player makes a series of blunders, Weber doesn't seem to hold them accountable. Substitute another player immediately. Watching Brandon Paul on EVERY fast break opportunity, fail to see any other players and have the ME ME ME attitude is getting old quickly.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:18 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Fred, because of the problem you mention, Paul is seeing less playing time. His potential is obvious, but his production does not match it ... yet. Weber has benched both McCamey and Davis, trying to get them to play harder all the time. What more can he do. He needs them both. Jim and Loren

Dr. Phil from Orland Park, IL — 11:19 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Mr. Tate & Mr. Turpin,
Who is responsible for putting the Illini on 560 Am in the Chicagoland area? You move from an all sports programming to view-oriented programming that is, frankly, disturbing. I cannot believe that the university wants to be associated with such programming. Also, I am surprise that the anti-chief forces have not focused on this. Was money the main issue? Yes, I know the Illini would have shared 670 AM with DePaul, but the signal is stronger and the station promoted the Illini much better and more often than 560 AM. Who knows, with the way Depaul has been, the Illini could have been the main team. Again, who was responsible, and why did it happen? Thank you.

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:21 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Dr. Phil, the DIA is responsible for acquiring the outlet in Chicago. Getting a sports-oriented station has been a problem for years. Again, you could call Marty Kaufmann at the DIA. We haven't followed the negotiations closely but we know it has been a constant problem. Jim and Loren

Tom from Springfield, IL — 11:21 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Loren, is there any real explanation for Davis not having any drive this year? Weber said this weekend that Davis is only showing up for practice physically, indicating that Davis is not giving his all. He obviously doesn't give his all in games right now.

Where did this big-time player go? We have all seen what he is capable of. How does that vanish?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:23 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Tom, Davis has been the Big Ten leader in rebounds so, the question is, how does he do that while creating the perception that he isn't trying???????
His shot has been off. Players hit slumps that way, and it may be affecting his entire game. But the fact is, he has no dribble skills, and is dependent on others to set him up, and opponents know this and guard him more closely. Jim and Loren

Shane from Jacksonville, Illinois — 11:23 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Since most people compare Paul to a young Gill why not have the real Gill work with him over the summer?

Loren Tate (moderator) — 11:24 AM on Mon, 02/01/2010

Shane, thanks but we have to run. See you next week. Jim and Loren
