Jenna Smith waived

Former Illini star Jenna Smith has been waived by the WNBA's Washington Mystics, team GM Angela Taylor wrote on her Twitter feed last week.

Reports of Smith's status have been scarce, but Smith and Alysha Harvin are no longer listed on the team's roster on its website. Smith, the team's second-round draft choice, apparently experienced trouble with her knee that limited her ability to compete during the team's training camp, which began in late April. The Mystics' first exhibition game is Wednesday against New York.

Former Illini Lacey Simpson is dealing with a broken nose suffered in the San Antonio Silver Stars' camp. The Silver Stars' first exhibition is tonight.
