As far back as last fall, I began hearing that Texas prep superstar Kelsey Bone would make her announcement during the McDonald's All-America Game in Miami. And while you hear a ton of rumors when you're a reporter, most don't turn out to be true. This one did.
Despite her mother telling me last week that Kelsey would make her announcement on April 15, the first day of the spring signing period, Bone revealed during Monday's telecast of the McDonald's skills competition -- or, more accurately, an ESPN reporter revealed it, while Bone stood next to him -- that she will announce her decision during Wednesday's telecast of the game. It begins at 4:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
You can catch a brief interview with Bone on the archive of the skills competition at espn360.com (warning: you have to have an Internet service provider that agrees with The Worldwide Leader.)
Wednesday will end a long recruiting saga that has been something of a soap opera (click here for more about that). Most recruiting experts expect Bone to pick Texas or Texas A&M, more established programs than upstarts Illinois and South Carolina. If the Illini land Bone, it will represent one of the greatest recruiting coups in recent history, and it will propel the program's third-ranked recruiting class to the No. 1 spot nationally, experts say.
