LSU transfer considering Illini
Ayana Dunning, a 6-foot-3 forward who played her freshman season at LSU, is considering Illinois.
Dunning, a product of Eastmoor Academy in Columbus, Ohio, had the UI among her five finalists coming out of high school. She chose LSU over Illinois, Ohio State, USC and Rutgers. As a freshman, she played in 23 of 30 games, averaging 17 minutes, 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Dunning visited Illinois over the weekend. She had also visited C-U in September 2007.
Dunning recently told The Daily Reveille in Louisiana that she is looking for a coach who is familiar with her style of play. UI coach Jolette Law would qualify, the coach having seen Dunning even before she arrived to succeed Theresa Grentz.
Dunning was ranked 10th nationally by Blue Star Basketball as a prep senior. She also is reportedly considering Rutgers.
Dunning would have three seasons of eligibility after sitting out 2009-2010.
