One of the most appalling things that has happened to this version of the Illini football team this season has been a big show of attitude, a chippiness that has cost this team on occasion.
It's one thing to show some pride, it's another to get in the face of everyone you tackle, or start pushing and shoving after the other team makes a play on you.
It's even worse when you HAVEN'T EARNED THE RIGHT to puff out your chest to these teams. When your team underachieves and has a real chance to not make a bowl....you are looking at becoming the first team in over forty years to follow a Rose Bowl season with a losing record...HUMILITY should be settling in right now.
If I see another player thumping their chest after making a tackle ten yards further downfield that they should've...
How about this, take a cue from Jim Brown. Play hard. Punish the other team by beating them on the field, every play. Then shut your mouth and do it again.
Its classless butThats just todays culture. What about a guy who sacks a quarterback with his team down down 28 to 0. and his sack is meaningless. More often than not he will go do a dance, or chest bump one of his teammates.Every time they do what they are supposed to do they celebrate.
They probably did this crap way back when they played high school ball. It was a macho thing to do.
Illinois isnt the only team to do it.
