I'm tired of it, Illini

This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I've had in 24 years at WDWS. Trying to figure out this football team has...exhausted me.

I've really tried to be as positive as possible about this squad, but you (Illini) just won't let me keep it up. From bizarro-world scheduling to off-field garbage...I'm going out of my tiny mind.

You try to explain to callers, out-of-state media and others why this team loses to a Minnesota team that's one-third as physically gifted. Why this team would EVER have a game scheduled in Detroit this late in the regular season against a trap MAC opponent. Why can't the highly-thought-of offensive line open up any holes against outsized Western Michigan, and allow their quarterback to be repeatedly hit tyring to complete passes...and why didn't the offensive playcalling reflect that later in the game and move the pocket around a little bit?

Has the TV show following them around caused some distractions? Why can't they keep any momentum from game to game? Do they think they will just walk onto the field and win sometimes?

The media will never be able to explain to Joe and Jill Fan, to their satisfaction, why talented, athletic young men do not or WILL NOT play to their potential. We just can't do it. Why won't the 6-10 center for the basketball team slam dunk when he has the ball by the basket? I don't know either. If I could do that, I'd do it every time I had the ball.

Add to this the weird scheduling, adding the inexplicable Fresno State fiasco-in-waiting. It's like someone from another Big ten school got hold of the planner to make sure there can't be a smooth ride for this team.

Two games left this year. I don't think the Illini will win either of them. Ohio State still remembers what the Illini did last year, and that little mid-field celebration. You (the Illini) are set up to get what you unfortunately deserve...

Ohio State 42, Illinois 14.

If they need constant motivation they could hire Tony Robbins to give a motivational speech before every game, and then at halftime they could use Dr Phil to keep them going.maybe they could do this next year.

Nothing else has worked this year.

If Illinois fails to go to a bowl game this year, Ron Guenther should be fired for scheduling a) just 6 home games; b) scheduling a game against a MAC team in freaking Detroit.

Loy,

You are tired of the ILLINI, I'm more tired of you and your gasbag comments!

You didn't comment last week after a good win against the Hawks...After you picked the ILLINI to lose. So far this week you've written two blogs on the loss Saturday.

I wish you would go away and stay away but I know that won't happen because you get a minimal salary for doing nothing...But, what would you expect from a guy that has done absolutely nothing with his life.

I agree with you Bimb! Loy, you are bitter about EVERYTHING! Sorry that these 18-22 year old kids arent living up to your overweight expectations! You sure did disappear after the Iowa game! That was funny! I wouldnt lose any sleep if you were gone from the airwaves or online! Yea, it did suck that the Illini had to play in Detroit, but my wife and I were 2 of the 12,000 and we had a blast! It doesnt matter where you play a team, you still have to play! Who cares? Really?

Hi folks!

Thank you for your comments! Unfortunately you haven't seemed to read any of the previous blogs when I praised the Illini's efforts in their wins. But that's the great thing about the internet, isn't it? People with prior agendas can tke potshots at you at any time, anonymously, then crawl back into the shadows like cockroaches.

Hope you find someone else on IlliniHQ that suits your opinions. There's plenty of good people here, don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch.

To dave:

Does this team really need more TV exposure? I'm kidding....anything to keep momentum from one game to another.

To MarkH:

RG does a lot of things well. Scheduling football teams doesn't seem to be one of them.

Loy,

I'm really tried of sports columnist/bloggers/talk show hosts spewing their garbage as if it means anything then whining when fans take issue with their crapola! Then if they get mad enough, they crawl behind the "anonymously response" whine when people take issue!

The only agenda is the one you have to get improved readership since you are the only new-gazette sports "personality" that puts this kind of garbage out there.

In closing, I'll be more than happy to e-mail you my complete contact information then put up $100.00 that say's Illinois will not get beat by a 42-14 score! If you want to take this bet, I will let a news-gazette employee of your choosing hold it beforehand - How about it sport???

Mr. Bo:

If I had an extra hundred dollars I wouldn't be dumb enough to waste it on a bet.

And since I've been wrong about Illinois predictions almost every time this year, including the Iowa game, you should be pleased that I chose against them.

How about giving everyone a few reasons why you think Illinois won't get brutalized by Ohio State, rather than launching a personal attack?
