What I did this Summer, Today and the New Illini Sports Season

This is a story about my summer travels and what a Small World it is.

One of the great things about my job here at WDWS and IlliniHQ

Is being able to travel with the Fighting Illini Teams.  This Spring I traveled to John Wayne Orange County Airport

To watch the Illini Baseball team play in the NCAA Tournament.

The Illini did a great job going 2 and 2 in the Tournament and beating the host school Cal State Fullerton.  Since Fullerton is next door to Disneyland.  I had a chance to spend the day at the park.

I have been all over the United States this summer including the Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois.

For a Chicago CTA street car ride and a ride on the Nebraska Zepher...they are the new team in the Big Ten.

To the Big Ten Football Kickoff Luncheon in Chicago.

We broadcast Sportstalk with Steve Kelly and crew from the event.

And Gene Honda, Voice of the Big Ten Tournament and The Final Four was hard at work

Later my Dad and I went on a Chicago River and Lake Michigan boat ride.

The next day we had dinner at our favorite spot in Southern Wisconsin.

That brings us to Today and how the Internet has changed my life and made this a Small World. I am spending some time at my favorite place. Walt Disney World.

I went to lunch at the Tavern.

Now today the Illini Basketball team was playing the New Zealand National Team.  I turned on my Smart Phone and found @IlliniHoops Derrick Burson Tweeting the game.  It Started to get exciting.

Derrick Burson

He makes both, it's 73-71 New Zealand with 28 seconds left. call timeout. They will apply fullcourt pressure on the inbounds.

force a 5-second call when New Zealand tried to inbound, its Illini ball trailing 73-71.

Leonard jumps the ball screen and steals the ball just before time expires! and New Zealand headed to overtime here in Forli.

I send a text to the Voice of the Illini Brian Barnhart.  "are you following this game.  Illini going to OT!!!

Brian Barnhart.  No I am busy right now.

You should check it out.

This feels like an NCAA Tournament game!...Except for the teams wearing reversible practice jerseys and only 200 people here watching.

Derrick did a great job but the Illini ended up losing.

So here I am at Disney World having lunch and watching a live game from Italy on my Smartphone and talking to Brian at the same time. The Internet has changed my world.

Time for a ride on Space Mountain.

Thanks for looking at my Blog on IlliniHQ.  All of us will be here all year to bring you the best in Illini Sports.  Less than three weeks until Football.  As I close out I would like to share something Rob Judson once pointed out to me The Station by Robert Hastings.

We are about to leave the station on another Illini Journey and I plan to enjoy the ride.  Go Illini
