Every Monday during the prep football season, IlliniHQ.com will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend's games. Here are a few highlights from last weekend.

THE COMMITS

  • Future Illini quarterback CHANDLER WHITMER saw his high-school career end as seventh-seeded Downer Grove South (9-3) fell 7-3 to third-seeded Glenbard North in the Class 8A quarterfinals on Saturday. Whitmer completed 10-of-32 passes for 126 yards and threw two interceptions late in the fourth quarter. It marked the first loss for the Mustangs since a week two loss in early September. DGS won nine-straight after losing its first two games of the season. Whitmer plans to enroll at Illinois for the spring semester. • Johnsburg wide receiver CJ FIEDOROWICZ, an Illini verbal commitment, had a 17-yard touchdown reception, but the 11th-seeded Skyhawks fell short of an upset of second-seeded Richmond-Burton in a 28-10 Class 4A quarterfinal loss on Saturday. Fiedorowicz, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound wideout/tight end, finished his career with 42 touchdown receptions, one short of tying the IHSA record. Fiedorowicz, one of the top rated tight end prospects in the country, has reopened his recruitment and is seriously considering the Iowa Hawkeyes.
  • Tuscola routed South Fulton 38-0 in Saturday's Class 1A quarterfinal to end the high-school career of Illini commit MICHAEL HEITZ, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive tackle. The Rebels finished the season with an 8-4 record.
  • Defensive back DEXTER McDONALD, an Illini commit, and Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst were knocked out of the playoffs on a last-second 21-yard field goal as Blue Springs stole a 23-21 victory on Friday. The Hawklets, who finished the season 9-3, gave Blue Springs (11-1) its only loss with a 17-3 win on Sept. 11. Read more about McDonald here.
  • Illini commit MARK WILSON and the Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln Trojans defeated Godby 24-17 in their regular season finale on Friday. Wilson, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker, and Lincoln will host Jacksonville White in the Region 1-4A quarterfinals on Friday. Read more about Wilson's recruitment status here.

TARGETS - How some of the Illinois recruiting targets played this week

  • Offensive tackle SEAN HICKEY and Murrysville (Pa.) Franklin Regional lost to undefeated Thomas Jefferson (11-0) in the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals on Friday. Hickey helped Franklin Regional, which finished 8-3 on the season, gain 339 total yards of offense. Hickey plans to commit to one of three schools: Illinois, Boston College or Syracuse and also has received increased interest from Cincinnati. Read more about Hickey here and look for an update on the Pennsylvania lineman in tomorrow's blog.
  • Jacksonville (Fla.) Ribault wide receiver JAVON BELL had four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown, but the Trojans fell to undefeated Jackson (10-0) 21-14 in their regular season finale. Ribault (7-3) will play Tallahassee Godby in a first-round playoff game next week. Bell, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound wideout, has a scholarship offer from Illinois. Read more about Bell here.
  • Illinois recruits COREY LEMONIER and CALVIN SMITH and the Hialeah (Fla.) Thoroughbreds defeated North Miami 40-20 on Thursday to improve to 7-3 on the season. Lemonier, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end, and Smith, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive tackle, have offers from Illinois, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee and several other BCS programs.
