The 2009 Chicago Simeon homecoming queen looked miniscule in pictures from her coronation. The near 5-foot-5 senior is about average height but was barely noticeable next to her 6-foot-8, 290-pound king Fabbian Ebelle.

The normally quiet offensive tackle was elected to the homecoming throne recently, a sign that Ebelle is coming out of his shell, said Simeon coach Jesse Chick.

"Fabbian, I call him an introvert. He's kind of quiet," Chick said. "He can be a jokester when he wants to but he's a gentlemanlike kid. He has the respect of all the kids and (winning homecoming king) showed that. ...He was a sight to be seen in his little cape and little crown."

Ebelle also has adoration from the college ranks. Several schools from the Big Ten, Big East and MAC are interested in the massive offensive lineman.

"I'm pretty sure they realize he has a lot of upside," Chick said. "That's what college is about. They can take an athlete, and they can mold him into what they sort of trying to do with their team. I'm pretty sure they can mold him into any system pretty well."

Illinois continues to monitor the Chicago product. The Illini have four other Simeon graduates on their roster: Martez Wilson, Jack Ramsey, Nattiel Perkins and Nate Palmer.

"I'm pretty sure Illinois has put their bid in like a lot of schools," Chick said. "But I don't know to what degree (Illinois is recruiting him)."

Though schools are enamored with his size, Ebelle has yet to receive a scholarship offer. The Simeon lineman has focused on improving his technique to further impress his college suitors.

"That's something that we reiterate constantly with everybody, that you can have the best physical skills in the world but if you don't have the technique you're not going to be successful," Chick said. "He's really made a commitment to enhance what he's been doing and improve on what his weaknesses might be here or there."

For now, Ebelle will just play the waiting game to see if schools are impressed enough with his film to extend an offer.

"You don't know what they got on that board," chick said. "I'm pretty sure there's some schools that are ready (to offer), but you never know. Some may be waiting to see the state playoffs, maybe they want to see him play some there. You never know where they're at."

But one thing's for sure, Ebelle's name is well-known - whether it's in the Simeon halls or college football offices around the Midwest.

"He went from obscurity last year - not that he wasn't spoken of last year - but this year you see everyone calling," Chick said. "Every day, I get letters, calls, something about him."
