Jewone Snow is big, strong, fast and has great football instincts — all thanks to his family's athletic bloodline.

Snow's father, Garland Rivers, was an All-American linebacker at Michigan. His uncle Percy Snow starred at linebacker for Michigan State and was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Another uncle, Eric Snow, played in the NBA from 1995-2008 after starring at Michigan State.

"It's been in his blood for a really long time," Canton McKinley coach Ron Johnson said. "He asked questions on Saturday afternoons when he was a little kid and got answers. He learned at a very young age because he had guys around him in his life that have been involved in football."

Snow, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker, has followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle Percy to become a highly recruited linebacker. The senior has averaged about 13 tackles a game this season and has offers from almost a dozen schools, including Illinois, West Virginia, Purdue, Indiana, Marshall, Michigan State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and several MAC schools.

Snow would like to make a college decision soon, his coach said.

"(Illinois special teams coordinator Mike)Woodford has been over here quite a bit to see him," Johnson said. "I don't know what their status is with them. I don't know if it's too late now or after the fact now ... he's going to be done (with recruiting) here real shortly."

The Illini look to be out of the running for Snow's services. The Canton standout has taken official visits to West Virginia, Purdue and Michigan State and has not yet visited Illinois. His decision could come in the next week or so.

"He wants to be done with the process here real soon," Johnson said.
