THE COMMITS
Future Illini quarterback CHANDLER WHITMER ran for a touchdown and threw for another to help lead Downers Grove South (5-2) to a 42-6 win over Hinsdale South on Friday. Read more about Whitmer on his senior season and Illinois recruits.
Johnsburg wide receiver CJ FIEDOROWICZ, an Illini commit, took the reins at quarterback for the Skyhawks after starter to injury in Friday night's game against Crystal Lake South. Fiedorowicz, who will likely take official visits to Iowa and Wisconsin, threw a 40-yard touchdown in a 36-7 loss.
Illinois commit COREY COOPER, a 6-foot-2 safety, had a touchdown reception as Proviso East lost to Leyden 21-14 on Friday. The Pirates are 1-5 on the season.
Defensive back DEXTER McDONALD, an Illini commit, and the Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst Hawklets improved to 5-2 with a 33-19 win over Jefferson City on Friday.
Illini commit MICHAEL HEITZ, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive tackle, and South Fulton defeated Beardstown 39-12 on Friday night. Read more about Heitz here.
DANIEL EASTERLY, a 6-foot-4 safety committed to Illinois, and Detroit Cass Tech defeated Detroit Mumford 40-0 on Friday. Read more about Easterly here.
Future Illinois offensive lineman ANDY GALLIK and Brother Rice (2-5) lost to Mount Carmel 31-21 on Friday. Read more about Gallik here.
Illini commit SHAWN AFRYL, an offensive lineman, and Niles West fell to New Trier 54-0 on Saturday. Niles West is 1-6 on the season. Afryl (6-foot-3, 300 pounds) committed to the Illini in April and will likely play guard in college.
MARK WILSON, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker committed to Illinois, and Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln defeated Wakulla 42-22 on Friday.
TARGETS - How some of the Illinois recruiting targets played this week
Offensive tackle SEAN HICKEY and Murrysville (Pa.) Franklin Regional lost to Mars 14-0 on Friday night. Hickey, who has plans to commit to one of three schools: Illinois, Boston College or Syracuse, took an official visit to Illinois on Saturday.
Linebacker MITCHELL ROBERTS and the Shiloh Christian (Ark.) Saints defeated Prairie Grove 51-13 on Friday night. Roberts has offers from Illinois and Tulsa and interest from several Big 12 and SEC programs. Read more about Roberts here.
