Patrick Ivy took a while to get warmed up in week one. But the Cahokia senior quarterback came through in the clutch, throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to teammate Jimmie Hunt, a Missouri commit, with 33 seconds left to beat O'Fallon 8-3.
In week two, Ivy was nearly flawless from the start, completing 24 of 27 passes for 348 yards and six touchdowns. Ivy is now comfortable at the position after switching from wide receiver before his junior year due to an injury to the Commanches then-starting quarterback.
"Being it's his second year, (Ivy) has the passing down now," Cahokia coach Antwyne Golliday said. "He's gotten to the point where he can make all the throws that he needs to."
In his first season at quarterback, Ivy (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) completed 135 of 251 passes for 2,750 yards, throwing for 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Equally dangerous on the run, Ivy rushed for 706 yards and nine touchdowns on 84 rushes.
Ivy has drawn the interest of several Division I football programs, including Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Miami (Fla.). Golliday reports that Ivy has a scholarship offer from Missouri and that Southern Illinois "pretty much offered him too."
"He's got a lot of folks coming in," Golliday said. "He's probably going to be a last-minute decision. I don't put any pressure on those guys who to sign with or who to talk to, so we just leave it open. (Southern Illinois) Carbondale loves him. Carbondale's up there strong with him. It's just a situation that when the time comes, he'll make a decision."
Golliday said Ivy is being patient with the recruiting process.
"He doesn't have any (visits) planned," Golliday said. "He's just trying to play football and get the grades up," Golliday said. "He's just trying to be the best student-athlete he can be. ...He's going to qualify, I can tell you that for sure."
