Daniel Easterly had heard good things about the University of Illinois campus from his brother and father. After visiting Champaign last weekend for the Nike Combine, the Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech defensive back shared his family's affection for the campus.

"This is my first trip down here, and I loved it; I loved it," Easterly said. "I'm really considering this to be my home. I love everything about it. This is my first trip down here with my coach. My dad and my brother's been down here before. They told me I would love this place and that it would be a perfect fit for me. I'm starting to believe that it would be a perfect fit for me."

Easterly, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound safety, holds offers from Illinois, Alabama, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Purdue, Wisconsin, Central Michigan and Toledo.

"I'm taking a lot of visits this summer, going to a lot of camps, trying to do my thing, show my game," Easterly said.

Easterly collected 58 tackles from the safety spot as a junior for Cass Tech. He also collected three interceptions and four fumble recoveries. First-year defensive line coach Keith Gilmore has led the recruitment of the three-star prospect for the Illinois coaching staff.

"(Illinois coaches) said I could be a real deciding factor on their defense because I'm aggressive and I like to hit," Easterly said. "My favorite part of the game is to hit. I wish we had pads on so I could show them what I do with the pads on."

Already with a commitment from top safety recruit Corey Cooper (Proviso East), Illinois also seems to be in good shape with Easterly.

"Illinois so far is my favorite," Easterly said. "Following that are Michigan State, Toledo and Mizzou."
