Harris has everyone's attention now

Ask Brian Satterfield what makes Gary Harris such a sought-after recruit and he has quite an answer.
"Everything," said the Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) High School basketball coach of his 6-foot-4 shooting guard.
Maybe that's the reason Harris has made quite an impression recently. The consensus five-star recruit might have been overlooked a year ago in the deep talent pool that is Indiana's 2012 recruiting class, but lately he's created a buzz and caught the attention of some who weren't sold on him yet.
"He's really in this past year shown a lot to schools that may have been hesitant at first or saw some other guys and went ahead and offered them before him," Satterfield said. "He may have been in the second tier of players that they were originally looking at, (but not anymore)."
Harris is a year young for his class. Having just started his junior year, he's only 15 right now, Satterfield said. Satterfield cited Harris' age as one reason why his development may have appeared to come a bit later than some in his class. In reality, his game took off at the same time, but he was just playing with kids a year older.
"What a lot of people don't understand is from an age standpoint he should only be a sophomore this year," Satterfield said. "I think schools are seeing that and really seeing what he's able to do and how his game's taken off, especially the things he does on and off the court, how grounded he is, how he just takes things in stride."
Harris no longer goes unnoticed. He has the attention of many major programs, including Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Louisville. Satterfield said he's been getting a lot of calls, e-mails and texts about setting up in-home visits, which begin Thursday.
Satterfield said he plans on sitting down with the Harris family - including mother Joy, who was the Big Ten Athlete of the Year in 1991 when she played basketball at Purdue - in the coming weeks and helping Harris narrow his list of schools down to five or 10. Until then, Satterfield said many schools are still in the running. That includes Illinois, which was one of the first schools to show interest in Harris and thinks "very highly of him," Satterfield said.
Harris has been to Champaign each of the past two summers to play in the Illinois team camp, and he enjoyed both trips, Satterfield said. He recently visited Indiana and the trip went well, Satterfield added.
But the coach doesn't know too many details.
"He's one that doesn't say a whole lot," Satterfield said. "Every time you ask him, he gives you three- or four-word responses. About every place he's been, he's enjoyed it, liked the atmosphere and coaches."
While Harris might not say much off the court, his game is making plenty of noise on it.
