In case you missed it, there was a soccer flavor to Sportstalk last week, as Ella Masar and Janet Rayfield both joined me on the program. Just click on their names to hear the interviews on podcast. I particularly enjoyed having Rayfield in the studio, as we discussed everything from recruiting to Texas heat to the 2009 schedule. Check it out if you didn't hear us live.
Speaking of interviews, here's one with Emily Zurrer from a bit earlier this year. She was interviewed by the website boxofmess.com, and there's a nice Q&A with Emily.
And for the blog, Ella Masar is writing a blog on the Little Illini Soccer Club's website these days. As you may know, she is an LISC alum who has fond memories of her times in youth soccer. Speaking of Ella, she saw her first WPS action since suffering a leg injury last month, as she got on the field in extra time during last night's 2-1 Red Stars victory over Washington at Toyota Park.
And speaking of the Little Illini Soccer Club, I'm hoping to talk with someone from LISC a little later this month when I fill in for Steve Kelly on Sportstalk once again. They've been going strong for more than 25 years, and the organization continues to grow.
Some future Illini were recognized by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently. The publication chose class of 2010 Illinois commitment Megan Pawloski as its 2009 Player of the Year. The junior from Belleville Althoff tallied 43 goals and 19 assists this season. In addition, the Post-Dispatch named incoming freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Hoffman to its All-Metro Second Team. Hoffman recorded 13 wins in net for Collinsville this season, 11 by shutout. The Post-Dispatch has her listed as a junior in the article, but she will be at Illinois this fall.
Also, last month the Chicago Sun-Times recognized two Illinois-bound players on its All-Area team. Both are verbal commitments in the class of 2010. Vanessa DiBernardo of Waubonsie Valley was named to the team as a midfielder, while Janelle Flaws from Glenbrook South made the squad as a forward.
More to come in the near future. Thanks for reading.
