Soccer Recruit Honored

A future Illini has received a lofty honor.  Illinois soccer signee Vanessa DiBernardo has been named the Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2009-2010 school year, Gatorade announced today.  DiBernardo is the first Illini recruit to win the award since Tara Hurless in 2001.

DiBernardo is part of an six-player recruiting class for Janet Rayfield's squad, that includes five players from Illinois.

The Illini have completed their spring season, with a 2-2-1 record.  Both losses came against Womens Professional Soccer teams, St. Louis Athletica and the Chicago Red Stars.  Illinois picked up wins against Marquette and Milwaukee, while tying Missouri.
