Alvis wins weekly honor

Because of her outstanding play in just her fourth career start, senior Jamie Alvis was today named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week. It's the first weekly conference honor for Alvis, who was in the starting lineup because fellow senior Emily Zurrer was still in Beijing for the Olympics.
Alvis was part of an outstanding team defensive effort on Saturday against the Missouri Tigers, who managed just one shot on goal in the Illini's 2-1 overtime win in Columbia.
