Loane on the Loose

Badgered By Inconsistency

The Illini's 27-17 Big Ten football loss at Wisconsin saturday exposed some of the teams biggest weaknesses.  Obviously, it's hard to win when you throw three interceptions,  but Illini recievers dropped several catchable balls.  After posting big numbers against Indiana, Jason Ford had 12 carries for 47 yards.  The abscence of Rashard Mendenhall is still a huge factor.  Regis Benn had only two catches, as opposing defenses key on him, and know that Juice is always looking his way.

The defense had some good series, but also surrendered some long drives.  And, for the most part special teams are still a question mark, although Matt Ellars 47 yard field goal was a thing of beauty.

I still think Illinois will post wins against a methodical Iowa team, Westen Michigan, and at Northwestern.  But, as I'm sure coach Zook will express in practice this week, nothing is EASY at this level.
