No. 21: Jack Ramsey, receiver.
Why he's important: All of the Illinois receivers will have a chance to take some of the heat off of Arrelious Benn. And Ramsey is a guy who can make a major dent in Benn's double coverage. Because he didn't play a year ago, there won't be great awareness of him in the Big Ten. That could change with a couple of big early games. His background as a quarterback makes him dangerous on option passes. He is also an excellent runner, capable of long dashes on a reverse. Don't be surprised if he catches 30-plus balls and gets in the end zone a half dozen times.
Getting personal: Besides playing at quarterback in high school, he was also a standout on defense, intercepting five passes as a senior. The News-Gazette All-Stater should be plenty familiar with a pair of the Illinois opponents. Among his final college choices were Michigan State and Cincinnati, which are both on the 2009 Illini schedule. Redshirted as a freshman, then played well during the spring. He showed he was coachable by improving his hands after early problems with drops.
