No. 26: Russell Ellington, linebacker.
Why he's important: After Martez Wilson, there is no certainty among the starters at linebacker. Ellington has already played, though the bulk of the work was on special teams. A two-way standout at Homewood-Flossmoor, he has the athleticism the coaches want to see at linebacker. Even if he doesn't crack the starting lineup, his tackle totals should climb way above the eight he had in 2008,
Getting personal: High school teammate of Illini defensive back Supo Sanni. The two offer support to each other on and off the field. Played basketball on a top team in high school. Picked Illini over Iowa and Iowa State.
