No. 27: Randall Hunt, offensive lineman.

Why he's important: Currently, he's filling the left guard spot vacated by Eric Block, who is now at center. If the Illini can keep the line the way it is, with Hunt, Block and Jon Asamoah in the middle, it will make for a smooth transition from Eric Wolford to Joe Gilbert. If, however, the coaches have to move block back to left guard, it will create more uncertainty across the line. Hunt had a solid spring. His experience is a plus. Lining up to veteran Block will also be a big help. Hunt has played in parts of two seasons for Ron Zook's team.

Getting personal:New Jersey native played prep school football with Illini cornerback Dere Hicks.  He picked the Illini over Northwestern and Rutgers. Hunt was a midyear enrollee with the Illini, which helped him both on the field and in the classroom. A big fan of the late Reggie White. Friendly guy will move toward a leadership role later in his career.
