No. 49, Jack Cornell, offensive lineman

Why he's important: The Quincy Notre Dame product is a key backup at guard. Going into his third year in the program, Cornell knows the offense and his position well. If the coaches need to make changes in the lineup, he is capable of stepping in and holding his own.

Getting personal: Give the big guy plenty of credit for being a good sport. During spring ball, he participated in a charity modeling show. Then he made fun of teammate Jon Asamoah for not going too. Originally, he made a commitment to Michigan State, but changed his mind after John L. Smith was released. He kept in contact with Illinois and was welcomed in by Ron Zook's staff.
