I just got off the phone with Louisville (Ky.) Male running back/cornerback Justin Green. While he didn't confirm his commitment to Illinois, which is being widely reporter, he didn't say "No" either.
Green will make the official announcement at 10 a.m. (Champaign-Urbana time) Wednesday. All indications are that he has dropped his commitment to Ohio State and will sign with Ron Zook's team.
It will be an important late addition to Zook's class. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder is rated among the nation's Top 100 by Rivals.com.
Listed as a cornerback on the recruiting sites, Green wants to try running back in college. And Illinois will apparently give him the chance. The son of a high school coach, Green is a Kentucky high school sprint champion.
His older brother, Marcus, played for the Buckeyes.
Just read this article posted on the Louisville Newspaper Courier-Journal on line: (see below)
"Justin Green to Illinois?
The night before signing day is always fun, chasing down rumors.
One that appears to have some legs is the fact that Male High School All-American Justin Green has backed out of his commitment to Ohio State University.
I had been hearing that for several days.
But today the news about where he was headed has been mixed. Several folks have told me he was sticking with Ohio State, while about midday I had two sources confirm that he might be headed to Kentucky. UK had been making a late push.
Now, tonight it appears he's headed to Illinois.
Nothing is official right now and Green isn't talking until his 11 a.m. press conference at the school. I will be there with a live blog update the minute he puts on a hat.
But what hat will it be? If the word I am hearing tonight is correct that Illinois promised him that he could play running back - he would have been a defensive back at Ohio State - then I say it's a pretty good bet he's headed to Champaign.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Green was named second team All-American by EA Sports and is the highest-rated prospect in the state by Rivals.com.
Green comes from a great family, his father Jelly is a longtime coach and brother, Marcus, played at Male and Ohio State. He's a great kid and will make the right decision.
