At least, according to the folks who hand out the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award (Wow, is that name long. How about we just call it The O?)
Anyway, Saturday's Illinois-Missouri game has been designated as the award's Marquee Matchup. Makes perfect sense since both Missouri's Chase Daniel and Illinois' Juice Williams are on the award's watch list. Daniel is also considered a strong Heisman Trophy candidate in his senior year.
Just two other games this weekend match quarterbacks who are both on the watch list. One of the two is Alabama-Clemson, which will be seen on ABC at the same time as Illinois-Missouri. So, if you've got a good remote finger, you can watch four award contending quarterbacks at once.
Williams is trying not to make a big deal out of the matchup with Daniel. He said nice things about the Missouri senior and won't have any contact with him on the field, other than the postgame handshake.
Daniel praises Williams too, pointing out the advancement Williams made during his sophomore season.
No way to know what would have happened had Williams finished last year's game. Here's hoping both players finish what they start on Saturday and play to their capabiliities. If that happens, you might see a game in the 40s.
