Earlier in the week, Sam Beshers challenged me to an NIT pickoff. Foolishly, I accepted the challenge. And now I am paying the price.
After the first round, Sam has a hefty 11-7 lead. And it looks like it is going to grow. His championship pick, Illinois, is still alive. My championship pick, Arizona State, was upset in the first round by Jacksonville. Artis Gilmore must have had a big game.
Sam has five of his eight second-round winners alive. I've got only four. My bracket might already be eliminated, but like a stubborn politician, I'm not about to quit. We'll have a recount later.
Thanks to Sam for the challenge. Of course, he knew he had a pigeon on his hands.
