1 day to 2009 opener
I'm not quite sure what happened with the pregame handshake tomorrow. Missouri seemed to be pointing fingers at Ilinois and Illinois says it doesn't work because of other factors. No matter what you're doing on the field, you can always add an item.
But is the pregame handshake a good idea? Probably not. The Oregon-Boise State mess shows that it doesn't mean much. Putting the players together before the game might cause more problems than good.
Here's a suggestion for the Illini and Tigers: Shake hands with the other guys tomorrow without the ridiculous ceremony. Find the guy who is going to be in your face all day and say "Good luck." Make it more of a real gesture than a fake one. Everybody will benefit.
And please, no punching. No matter how the game went.
