27 days to 2009 opener

Each year at Camp Rantoul, The News-Gazette hands out a survey sheet to each player.

They aren't required to fill it out (don't tell them that), but we get almost 100 percent participation. On Sunday, many of the players had pen in hand after they took their pictures on media day.

Without spoiling any of the surveys, many of the answers are clever and/or thoughtful. We keep the questions simple and to the point so the players don't have to spend a lot of time on it. We try to keep the questions topical. Last year, we asked their favorite in the presidential race (Obama was a landslide winner). This year, we've got questions about LeBron James' future, Joe Paterno vs. Bobby Bowden and who they are following on Twitter.

Check out the surveys each day during Camp Rantoul. We have enough of them that we will likely continue to run them until the opener against Missouri.
