22 days to 2009 opener
I can't believe I have to wait another year for the Rantoul High School scrimmage. It's the annual highlight of Camp Rantoul.
Saturday was no exception. The weather was perfect. The stands were full. The food was good (from what I hear). And the Illinois offense gave everybody something to chatter about.
Jarred Fayson had a big night catching the ball. So did Jeff Cumberland. Wisely, the Illinois coaches kept Arrelious Benn's work to a minimum. The last thing the coaches wanted was a repeat of two years ago, when Benn suffered a shoulder injury at the scrimmage.
Ron Zook had a relieved look on his face afterward, happy that there were no major injuries and enough mistakes to complain about when the team meets Sunday night.
The players get Sunday off. Well, most of it. But they'll be back Monday for the start of the second week of Camp Rantoul. Can't hardly wait.
