11 days to 2009 opener
How far is it from Bloomington, Ind. to Washington, D.C.? 642 miles.
How far is it from State College, Pa., to Washington D.C.? 216 miles.
And what shortens that distance? That will be $3 million please.
Indiana isn't the first school to sell a home game for a price. The Hoosiers saw an opportunity to make some big bucks and went for it. Remember, basketball attendance wasn't so hot last season and football attendance has been even worse.
Credit Bill Lynch for putting a happy face on the 2010 move. His school is giving Penn State a home game in an area where it heavily recruits. The rest of the Big Ten schools, including Illinois, will soon be crying foul.
Maybe it will open the idea to others. "Hey, Purdue, want to play us in Dallas?" the Illinois coaches might ask. If Ohio State does it right, it could play all 12 games within its borders, moving up and down the interstate depending on the opponent.
