8 days to Camp Rantoul
No. 8: Oklahoma State
Why I like the Cowboys: No team in the country has a better combination of quarterback-receiver-running back. The reason you don't know more about Zac Robinson is because he is buried in the conference of quarterbacks. He threw for 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. He's got one of the nation's best receivers (Dez Bryant) to throw to and one of the best tailbacks (Kendall Hunter) to pitch to. Three offensive line starters are back. So is the starting tight end. The defense returns three starting linebackers. Mike Gundy seems to have moved past the "I'm a man. I'm 40" controversy and is now being talked about for his coaching. The Cowboys don't leave campus until October.
Why I don't: Two of the first four games are testers against Georgia and Houston. The secondary got wiped out by graduation, with only one returning starter. While the offense is loaded, the defense still isn't playing up to championship level. After opening 8-1 last season, the Cowboys lost three of their last four, including the Holiday Bowl loss to Oregon. The competition in the Big 12 South is brutal, with three teams (including the Cowboys) capable of playing for the national title.
