No. 27: West Virginia
Why I like the Mountaineers: Noel Devine is one of the best running backs in the nation and is the leading returning rusher in the Big East. If new quarterback Jarrett Brown can get Devine the ball 30-35 times a game, on both pitches and passes, then the offense should be fine. There are seven returning starters back on offense and defense. The offense welcomes back both starting receivers and the tight end. On defense, three returning starters in the secondary should be a pain for opposing offenses.
Why I don't: Pat White is gone after four prolific seasons. Hard to imagine Brown matching his numbers. Bill Stewart hasn't exactly wowed the folks in Morgantown since the big debut in the Fiesta Bowl. The Mountaineers lost four games last season after being considered the preseason Big East favorite. The schedule is a pain, with trips to Auburn, South Florida and Cincinnati. At least the Pitt game is at home.
