58 days to Camp Rantoul
No. 28: Justin Green, running back.
Why he's important: The top recruit in the class made a last-minute switch to Illinois after earlier commiting to Ohio State. Green wants to play running back in college and the Buckeyes apparently saw him as a defensive back. Though there are a line of experienced players at the position, he will be given a chance to earn playing time during Camp Rantoul. Besides working at tailback, the speedster will get a look as a return specialist. Green will be the fastest tailback on the team and one of the fastest in the Big Ten.
Getting personal: The son of a high school coach, Green is taking his college career very seriously. How do we know? Because the two-time defending Kentucky 100 champion skipped the bulk of the track season after injuring his hamstring during an indoor meet. There was pressure on Green to come back, but he didn't want to risk huring the start of his Illinois work because of an injury. At Louisville Male, Green played for Bob Redman. Redman's son Chris was a one-time Illini signee who was let out of his commitment after an offensive coordinator change.
