50 days to Camp Rantoul
No. 20: Matt Eller, kicker.
Why he's important: After winning the starting job at Camp Rantoul, walk-on hit 15 of 20 field goals in 2008. He was at his best in the clutch against Iowa, hitting a late field goal to give the Illini their last win of the season. He was 8 of 10 from 40 yards and beyond, including hitting a 51-yarder. Helped the Illini make a smooth transition from reliable Jason Reda. Despite his first season performance, he'll enter Camp Rantoul in a battle with Derek Dimke for the starting job. Whoever wins the job will know there is somebody there ready to try the next big kick.
Getting personal: Florida product is learning to live with the cold weather. This year, he's hoping to kick in a home game in December against Fresno State. Like most specialists, he's a friendly guy with a good personality. Doesn't fit the usual "weird kicker" label that has been pinned on past Illini. If his kick against Iowa is any indication, he deals well with pressure.
