No. 17: Jeff Cumberland, receiver.

Why he's important: Has shown the ability to be a second go-to receiver for Juice Williams after Arrelious Benn. Finished the 2008 season strong, catching five passes against Northwestern. He had a 77-yard touchdown catch against Michigan, one of his four scores in 2008. Speedy for his size, Cumberland turned around his Illinois career late in the 2007 season, catching 11 passes in the final four games after grabbing just one ball the first nine games of the season. Though he will be pressed by the deep receiving corps, he has a chance for a 40-plus catch season. His height makes him an obvious target near the end zone.

Getting personal: Converted tight end rated a four-star recruit as a senior at Columbus (Ohio) Brookhaven. Averaged 32 yards per catch his final season. He picked Illini over Ohio State, West Virginia, Minnesota and others. Sports management major was also a track standout in high school, qualifying for the state meet in the sprints. Pro scouts like his size and speed. Don't be surprised if he is a first-day pick in the 2010 draft.
