No. 45: Cordale Scott, receiver

Why he's important: The Illini know they have a strong set of go-to receivers in Arrelious Benn and Jarred Fayson. But to make Mike Schultz's offense work best, Juice Williams will need more threats at receiver. Based on the way he performed in the spring, Scott could be putting himself in position to be a strong option. There is plenty of competition at receiver, but Scott seemed to take that necessary step all former high school stars must take before they can contribute in college.

Getting personal: The former standout at Cleveland Glenville turned down a chance to play for Ohio State to sign with Illinois. He likes the 2009 schedule, which includes two trips to his home state (Ohio State and Cincinnati). Scott promises a bunch of family members and friends will make their way to the game. If he has success at Illinois this season, it will help the Illini in their continuing efforts to recruit Ohio.
