66 days to Camp Rantoul
No. 36: Sirod Williams, defensive tackle.
Why he's important: With Josh Brent's status uncertain because of legal issues, the Illini need an experienced player ready to line up next to Corey Liuget. Williams was a projected starter in 2008 before suffering a knee injury at Camp Rantoul that ended his season before it started. During the spring, Williams showed he was mostly recovered from the injury and is gaining confidence in the leg. The coaches eased him back into the routine and were feeling good about his progress.
Getting personal: There is strong. And there is Sirod Williams. He is a workout warrior, who set weight lifting records during his prep days in Garfield Heights, Ohio. He has continued the outstanding weight room performance at Illinois. Soft-spoken and friendly, Williams is popular with his teammates and a leader among the defensive linemen.
