Seeing isn't always believing.

Well, where do I begin?  First of all, let's give a big thanks to the local TV stations for not broadcasting the game.  Though I did everything short of standing on my head with the antenna in my hand (I live in the country, and have picked up a Bloomington station before through the antenna), I refused to spend any money to buy this game.  It turns out it was a good financial decision and family decision for me.  Now I have $20 to spend on parking for next week's game against Ohio State.  And, instead of ordering pizza and watching the DVR'd game later in the evening, my family and I sat around the table eating a homemade meal and discussing our day.

Had I watched the game like usual, I might not have checked IlliniHQ as often.  It was a treat to read Jim Rossow's account of the game.  Gave me lots of laughs, thankfully, as this game could have made one cry.

I saw all I needed to see on the Big Ten Network's highlights (or lowlights, whatever they were).  I saw the awesome touchdown pass that Juice threw to Cumberland.  I saw the awesome, long pass to Jenkins.  I saw Miller work his tail off on defense.

I also saw the two interceptions that eventually resulted in 14 points for Western Michigan.  I saw the Illini defensive backs on their heels, watching touchdowns scored.

I listened to all that I could on the radio.  As usual, Barnhart and Kittner do an awesome job calling the game.  You really don't need to watch it.  Thank goodness I didn't.  Instead, I went to Skateland to a birthday party with my 6 year old.  The game wasn't on there either; only the Disney Channel.  I kept checking the score when I went out to my van.  Only missed some of the 4th quarter, but I'd already heard enough.  It must be a bad day when I had more fun roller skating than watching the Illini.  Wow.

By not purchasing the game, I was able to watch the Penn State/Iowa thriller.  I was definitely rooting for Penn State, as I'll never cheer for Iowa.  That was a bummer.  Also, here's a question.  Does it make the Illini look better because Michigan beat Minnesota (by a lot) and Illinois beat Michigan?  And Iowa beat Penn St. and Illinois beat Iowa?  Or, are all the teams so mediocre it doesn't matter?  Is anyone confused?

The lllini have more talent than they are showing.  This season is extremely frustrating.  Instead of a happy, positive fan, I have turned into a grouchy fan.  I don't like being grouchy.  Maybe I should adjust my attitude.

One thing I do believe is that the Illini better make some sort of adjustment, or the next two games are going to be bad.  And I'll be grouchy.  Maybe I'll go skating again instead.  Go Illini!
