This weekend is the annual Coaches Vs. Cancer weekend in college basketball.  If you watch a lot of college hoops this weekend...you will notice the coaches wearing sharp-looking suits...and sneakers.

This weekend has become a tradition each year to help call attention to the fight against cancer.  Everyone has been touched by cancer and this has become a great way to help in the fight against that dreaded disease.

The shoes that the Illini coaching staff will be wearing were designed by an area bidder who donated money to Coaches vs. Cancer through an auction held on our Champaign radio stations....WDWS/WHMS.  The  high bidder earned the right to design the shoes and you will see those shoes on the coaching staff's feet on Saturday as the Illini battle the Hoosiers at the Assembly Hall.

You will also notice a new twist this year .....as the Illini will be wearing special uniforms on Saturday.  The jerseys are white with silver lettering and pink outlines and piping.  The Illini will also wear pink shoes.  I think the uniforms and shoes look pretty sharp...and will later be auctioned off to help raise more money for the Coaches vs Cancer effort.

The Illini are one of four teams with special uniforms this weekend....joining Oregon, BYU and Iowa State with the special threads.  Hopefully more teams will get in on the effort in future years.

So wearing their white, pink and silver jerseys...and pink shoes....the Illini will attempt to help in the fight against cancer....and get another important Big Ten win against a team that happens to wear crimson and cream..
