Night of Big Plays
A good crowd at Bill Walsh Field in Rantoul saw some offensive fireworks on Saturday night.
First play from scrimmage...#1 offense vs #2 defense....Daniel Dufrene goes 80-yards for TD...breaking some tackles at the line of scrimmage.... and then scoring the TD. Dufrene also fumbled once later in the scrimmage.
Eddie McGee hits Jarred Fayson with a 43-yard strike over the middle for another long TD...Fayson showing great speed after the catch. Eddie later scored a rushing TD but was penalized for taunting as he carried the ball untouched into the endzone.
Juice Williams to Jeff Cumberland for about a 95 yard TD pass...Cumberland with the leaping catch over Ashante Williams at the 50-yard line and then rambled into the end zone for the score. The Columbus, Ohio senior also had another leaping catch late in the scrimmage resulting in another big gain.
Receiver Cordale Scott made a lunging fingertip catch early in the scrimmage and showed he might deserve some time on the field this season.
Tight end Hubie Graham with a TD catch during the red zone portion of the scrimmage.
On the defensive side...a couple of standouts...Safety Supo Sanni with a lot of tackles...and freshman DE Michael Buchanan with a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks. The Illini are looking for a good pass rusher and the 6'6" Buchanan might help in that area.
Good night punting for Anthony Santella. They were not keeping official stats...but I am guessing his average was near 50 yards for the night.
The really good news...nobody was seriously hurt.
There were a handful of holding penalties on the offense...although Ron Zook said on our post game show that those mistakes can be fixed.
On to week 2 at Camp Rantoul!
